Call for abstracts for the 2014 Australian Community Engagement and Fire Awareness Conference

The NSW Rural Fire Service is inviting submissions for abstracts, posters and videos for the 2014 Australian Community Engagement and Fire Awareness (ACEFA) Conference. 
The ACEFA Conference will include a number of plenary sessions (to around 400 delegates), as well as streamed concurrent presentation sessions (to around 100 delegates). Plenary sessions are expected to be 45 minutes, with streamed sessions being 30 minutes.

The 2014 conference theme is Mission Possible. This conference will focus on sharing, adopting, adapting and applying good practice to build resilience to bush fires now and into the future. Along the road to resilience, everything is possible. Other areas of particular interest are:

  • Research and human behaviour analysis
  • Gender and its influence during emergencies
  • Children and young people in emergencies
  • Tools, techniques and approaches to building resilience
  • Communications during times of crisis
  • Brigade and volunteer projects and activities
  • Risk, planning and actions
  • Engagement activities targeted towards Indigenous communities
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse groups within our communities
  • Interagency collaboration

Submissions will be accepted until Monday 13 January 2014. Abstracts must be submitted to acefa.conference@rfs.nsw.gov.au using the template available on MyRFS. Notification of successful submissions will commence Friday 7 February 2014.


Abstracts are welcome from any NSW Rural Fire Service volunteer or staff, other emergency services, community development and community engagement professionals. Please forward this information on to your networks should you believe they may be interested in presenting at the conference.
